There’s something about photographing love stories in Texas that keeps pulling me back.
Sydney and Cody’s engagement session was one of those evenings that reminded me exactly why. There was something about the light, the landscape, and the way the two of them settled into the session that felt effortless. We had space to create beautiful portraits while still leaving room for all of those little in-between moments that actually felt like them.
And honestly, that’s what has made me fall in love with photographing couples in Texas as a whole.
Engagement sessions and wedding days are obviously two very different experiences, but the things I love about photographing them are often the same: beautiful light, incredible locations, movement, emotion, and enough space for a couple to simply be together without every moment feeling overly posed.
The more I photograph couples here, the more excited I get about documenting their full stories—from engagement photos to wedding weekends.
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings in Texas is how different every celebration can feel.
You can have an elevated celebration surrounded by modern architecture one weekend and something completely different the next, with open landscapes, beautiful private estates, or the natural scenery Texas does so well.
Sydney and Cody’s engagement photos are such a good example of this. We didn’t need an elaborate setup. The Texas landscape became part of their photographs while still keeping the focus exactly where it should be—on the two of them.
That same approach carries into how I photograph weddings. I want the location you chose to matter, but I never want it to overpower the people and moments that made the day yours.
If you know me, you know how much I pay attention to light.
The soft glow during an outdoor ceremony. The last little bit of sun during portraits. The way light pours through a window while you’re getting ready.
Texas gives us so many opportunities for those moments.
Some of my favorite photographs happen when we step away for a few minutes around sunset and let everything slow down. Nothing overly posed. Nothing that pulls you away from your wedding for an hour. Just the two of you, beautiful light, and a chance to actually take in the fact that you’re married.
Those are usually the images that end up feeling the most like you.
I’ll always love a beautifully designed wedding.
Give me the florals, the tablescapes, the fashion, the stationery, the champagne towers—all of it.
But the photographs I come back to again and again are usually the ones you couldn’t have planned.
Your mom seeing you completely ready for the first time. Your best friend making you laugh five minutes before the ceremony. Your grandparents dancing at the reception. The look you give each other across the room when no one else is paying attention.
Those are the moments that tell the story.
And that’s what I love about photographing both engagement sessions and weddings—the opportunity to create something beautiful without losing everything real happening in between.
For me, engagement photos are about so much more than having a few beautiful images before your wedding.
It’s a chance for us to spend time together, for you to get comfortable in front of my camera, and for me to learn how the two of you naturally interact. By the time your wedding arrives, it already feels familiar.
Sydney and Cody’s Texas engagement session reminded me how much I love photographing couples here, and I’m so excited for more love stories across Texas—from engagement sessions to full wedding weekends.
Whether you’re planning something intimate or an entire weekend celebration, I want your photographs to bring you back to more than how everything looked.
I want you to remember how it felt.
If you’re planning a wedding in Texas and looking for a photographer who will document the beautiful details and all of the moments happening in between, I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
